During a promotional interview for his film Flag Day, Sean Penn in an interview was asked to clarify his earlier comments regarding men being feminised and the actor stuck with his opinion and explained his take further. 

In the earlier interview, he had said “I am in the club that believes that men in American culture have become wildly feminised… I don’t think that [in order] to be fair to women, we should become them.” He was asked to clarify the same by Independent, and at this time he reiterated, “I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminised. I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.”

The actor gave this interview alongside his daughter Dylan Penn who also stars with him in Flag Day. The interview notes that this answer left “ Dylan quiet, staring into space.”
