Jeremy Slater, best known for the Disney Plus Marvel series Moon Knight, has been brought on board to write the screenplay.

Mortal Kombat, a martial arts-inspired adaptation of the popular video game, opened in theaters and on HBO Max in April, 2021.

Simon McQuoid, who directed Mortal Kombat, had earlier hinted that he would be interested in expanding the movie into a gory action franchise.

However, it is not yet known if McQuoid will return to direct Mortal Kombat II.
