Johnny Depp to play Louis XV in his next

The shoot of the film is expected to begin this summer

Actor Johnny Depp will star as French king Louis XV in his next film, which is set to be directed by French actor-director Maiwenn.

Details of the title and plot are currently kept under wraps. Louis XV, who was nicknamed 'the beloved' and reigned for 59 years, ruled for the longest time in the history of France after that of Louis XIV. He died, paradoxically, as an unpopular king after being accused of corruption and debauchery.

Maiwenn will star as Jeanne du Barry, a countess who was Louis XV's last mistress.

The shoot of the film is expected to begin this summer on location across Parisian landmarks, mainly at the Versailles Palace. Paris-based Why Not Productions are producing the film.
