Actor Glen Powell is joining hands with producer Chris Morgan for an upcoming sci-fi action thriller titled Deputy X.

Powell has also helped in the development of the idea and concept of the film, which is expected to be the start of a franchise. Though details of the plot are currently kept under wraps, the film is described to be in the veins of films like Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Running Man and 1970s cult classic Logan’s Run.

The film has a script written by Jack Paglen, whose credits include Transcendence and Alien: Covenant.

Morgan will produce along with Ainsley Davies, the head of development at his Chris Morgan Productions. Powell and Paglen will also produce.

Best known for his roles in Set It Up and Hidden Figures, Powell will soon be seen in Top Gun: Maverick and the Korean War epic Devotion. Morgan is best known for producing the Fast and Furious film franchise. He also produced Netflix's hit thriller Bird Box and is currently producing a Spanish-language spinoff of the film set in Barcelona.
