Guy Ritchie and Jake Gyllenhaal are teaming up for an Afghan war drama, reportedly titled The Interpreter. The film's shoot is set to begin in Spain later this month.

Guy Ritchie will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies.

Gyllenhaal will play US sergeant John Kinley, who is on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan. He is teamed with Ahmed, a local interpreter, to survey the region. When their unit is ambushed, the two are the only survivors and Ahmed saves John's life. However, once back on US soil, John learns that Ahmed and his family have not been granted passage to America. He returns to the warzone to retrieve Ahmed and his family before the local militias reach them first.

MGM and Amazon have signed the deals for the film's US and international rights. The film has a reported budget of $55 million.

Ritchie and Atkinson are producing via their Toff Guys production banner alongside Berger and STX Films’ John Friedberg.
