Neill Blomkamp’s film adaptation of the famous video game franchise has wrapped its production. Gran Turismo is based on the racing video game series of the same name. The major portion of the filming has been taking place in Budapest, Hungary.

The director announced the end of filming with a social media post that says, “That’s a wrap! For someone who loves cars as much as I do, I never thought I would direct a film centered around them. Had an amazing time shooting this, thanks to all the incredible cast and crew who made it come together. Flying out of Tokyo now to start thinking about editing.”

Blomkamp is best known for directing hard-hitting sci-fi films like District 9, Elysium, and Chappie. Gran Turismo is based on the true life story of Jann Mardenborough, a video game player who used his gaming skills to win real-life racing competitions. The screenplay for the film is written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin.

Archie Madekwe plays the lead role in the film while the rest of the cast includes  David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Darren Barnett, Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Daniel Puig, Josha Stradowski, and Thomas Kretschman. The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on 11 August 2023.
