Ewan McGregor is set to star in A Gentleman in Moscow, a UK drama series currently in development at Paramount Plus. The series is an adaptation of Amor Towles' novel published in 2016. The series will reportedly enter production later this year.

McGregor will be essaying Count Alexander Rostov who finds himself on the wrong side of history after the Russian Revolution ascribed to his past. The plot description reads, “Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in the opulent Hotel Metropol, threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again. As the years pass and some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold outside the hotel’s doors, Rostov’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family and love.”

The will be produced by eOne and VIS, a unit of Paramount Global. In addition to writing the series, Ben Vanstone will serve as the showrunner.

A Gentleman in Moscow will premiere on Showtime in the US and Paramount Plus in the rest of the international territories.
