Trailer out for film based on prolific writer Emily Bronte

Emily is set to follow the life and times of Brontë before she writes Wuthering Heights, which is widely considered a classic now

The trailer for the upcoming film based on Emily Brontë’s life titled Emily was released online. The film marks the directorial debut of British-Australian actor Frances O'Connor. Emma Mackey, who rose to prominence with Netflix’s comedy-drama series Sex Education, plays Emily Brontë in the film. Emily is set to follow the life and times of Brontë before she writes Wuthering Heights, which is widely considered a classic now.

The project kick-started in early 2020 with Mackey attached to play the titular role. The principal cast also includes Fionn Whitehead, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Alexandra Dowling, Amelia Gething, Gemma Jones, and Adrian Dunbar.

The film is all set to have its world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, which takes place from the 8th to the 18th of September. The US distribution company Bleecker Street, which bought the rights for the film, has revealed that the film will have its theatrical release in 2023, the date of release is yet to be confirmed.
