The shooting of Alejandro Inarritu's next, Bardo, has been completed. The film stars Daniel Gimenez Cacho and Griselda Siciliani.

The film, which sees Inarritu return to the director's chair for the first time since The Revenant (2015), is about a renowned Mexican journalist and a documentary filmmaker who returns to his native country at an existential crossroads, one that leaves him questioning his identity, familial relations, the folly of his memories, as well as the past and current reality of the place he calls home.

Bardo has been co-written by Inarritu and Nicolas Giacobone. This is their third collaboration after Biutiful and Birdman.

Incidentally, Bardo is the first Inarritu film to be shot and produced in his native country since his debut film, Amores Perros (2000).

While Darius Khondji is the cinematographer, Eugenio Caballero is on board as the production designer, and Anna Terrazas is the costume designer.

The release plans of Bardo, which is independently produced, are still being discussed.
