Star Wars-actor John Boyega has joined the cast of The Woman King, starring Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu in main roles. Billed as a historical epic, the film is currently in works at TriStar Pictures, with The Old Guard-fame Gina Prince-Bythewood wielding the megaphone.
Actor Lashana Lynch, who is also a part of the upcoming Bond movie, No Time to Die, will be appearing in a prominent role. According to reports, the film chronicles real-life events that transpired in the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 19th century. It follows the life of Nanisca, played by Davis, the leader of an all-female military unit, who teams up with a new member named Nawi, played by Mbedu, to fight the oppressors.
In addition to headlining the project, Davis will be co-producing it with Julius Tennon via JuVee Productions, Jack Blue, and Welle Entertainment.
On the other hand, Boyega has They Cloned Tyrone and 892 in his pipeline.
