Filmmaker Florian Zeller has announced that the shooting of The Son, the follow-up to his Oscar-nominated film, The Father, has begun. The Son stars Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Vanessa Kirby in the lead roles.

The film tells the story of Peter, played by Jackman, whose busy life with his new partner Emma (Kirby) turns stressful when his ex-wife Kate (Dern) turns up with their teenage son, Nicholas, who is distant and angry. The film follows Peter's efforts to be a better father while the son's condition remains a cause of concern for the family.

Zeller took to Instagram to announce the commencement of principal photography. While sharing a picture of the clapboard for the shooting spot, Zeller wrote, "Today was the first shooting day of The Son with the wonderful Vanessa Kirby and Hugh Jackman."

The Son is being bankrolled by Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Joanna Laurie, Christophe Spadone, and Zeller himself.

Meanwhile, Jackman's latest film, Reminiscence, is set to hit screens in India on August 27.
