American Born Chinese, starring Everything Everywhere All At Once actors Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu, has been cancelled at Disney+. The first season of the series premiered in May last year and opened to favourable reviews.

The eight-episode first season is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel Studios.

The series, despite its positive acclaim, reportedly did not make an impact amongst audiences and has therefore been cancelled by the production house. The series follows Jin Wang (Ben Wang), the son of Chinese immigrants, who is struggling with his school life and personal life in the US. Wang meets a new foreign exchange student at his school and subsequently, he is led into the fantasy realms of Chinese mythology and he encounters spiritual creatures like Guanyin, the goddess of mercy, played by Yeoh.

The series also starred Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jimmy Liu, and Sydney Taylor among others. Produced by 20th Television, the series is written and executive produced by Kelvin Yu.
