Sooryavanshi trailer out: Akshay Kumar goes all out against terror, Katrina Kaif reins him in

The trailer for Rohit Shetty’s action epic Sooryavanshi is out. The film is the latest instalment in Rohit’s ongoing cop universe, which spans the Simmba and Singham franchises.

Sooryavanshi is fronted by Akshay Kumar as Veer Sooryavanshi, the head of Mumbai’s anti-terrorism squad. The trailer opens with a voiceover summarising the multiple terror attacks in Mumbai since 1993. This is then followed by Akshay’s entry as he tracks down Lashkar sleeper cells and foils forthcoming attacks. “Mumbai police doesn’t fire bullets based on religion,” Veer announces in the trailer. “But kills according to the criminal record.” Sure. Of course. I mean, who would assume otherwise?

The 4-minute trailer also inducts Katrina Kaif into the Rohit Shetty Universe. The actor plays Veer Sooryavanshi’s wife, duly holding him accountable in one scene for risking their daughter’s life. As the action scenes and ‘Make In India’ plugs pile up, Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn turn up for the final crossover. “Stop measuring your entries and buck up,” Simmba tells his seniors, delivering the one line of humour amid all the bomb-blasting, helicopter-climbing and terror-fighting.

Sooryavanshi is written by Sajid-Farhad. The supporting cast includes Javed Jafferi, Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff (doing his ‘India-has-wronged-me’ from Mission Kashmir thing), and Sikander Kher.

The action entertainer is set for release on March 24.
