Game of Thrones Season 8 Trailer is here, and we break it down for you

Trust David and David to drop a near perfect trailer. The final season of Game of Thrones starts this April 14, and with less than 50 days to go, HBO has dropped its first trailer of the season. 

Arya and Winterfell

We see Arya running in what seems to be the crypts of Winterfell as she provides the voiceover to her own journey. "I know death," she says as the trailer cuts to show Ser Davos pacing what seems to be The Wall. "He has got many faces," she continues as we cut off to Varys who is cowering alongside women and children in the crypts. But what is interesting in this shot is that all the women and children appear to only have the whites of their eyes showing. Does this mean that Bran is warging into all of them or is there a bigger force at play? Is this then a green dream of Bran? "I look forward to seeing this one," Arya conludes as she holds an old dragonglass dagger. I guess word of the White Walkers has reached our favourite assassin. 

Bran's cryptic message

Then we see the three ships bearing the Greyjoy sigil, but the people on (at least one of) the ships wear golden armour. Remember that Cersei had told Jamie that she had made a deal with the Golden Company of Braavos? Maybe her Greyjoy ally had lent them the ship to make the journey to Westeros. We then get a new voiceover that says, "Everything you have done so far has led you to where you are now," at which point we get a shot of Tormund, Thoros of Myr and Beric Dondarrion. Given that Thoros died last season, maybe this is a flashback? There's also a shot of Bran and Samwell, and the voice we heard before seems to be the former's as he continues the sentence saying, "where you belong," (we get a shot of King's Landing at this point) and ends with a cryptic, "home," just as the scene shifts to Winterfell.

Gendry is back!

Home seems to be where Jon has come as he and Daenarys march into Winterfell along with the entirety of her army, including the two dragons which are still alive. "They are coming. Our enemy doesn't tire, does't stop, doesn't fear," says a cautious voice as Jon and Daenerys visit the crypt of Winterfell, with former standing in front of either Ned/Lyanna Stark's statue. We then get a shot at Gendry, who, if you remember, Jon had sent to Eastwatch to help them prepare for war. We see Jamie and Brienne together in the midst of a battle. Does she perhaps sacrifice herself for the Stark sisters to keep her promise to Catelyn?

Cersei and Jaime -- till death do them part

There's a shot of Cersei holding a glass of wine with tears in her eyes. Maybe she finally acknowledges what is coming her way -- death -- and is preparing herself for it.

"I promised to fight for the living and I tend to keep that promise," says the Kingslayer as every single living soul assembles in what seems to be Winterfell.

Winter has come

We see Jon and Daenaerys approach the dragons. Maybe Jon finally mounts one? Also a fleeting shot of the Hand, Tyrion Lannister, who surprisingly hasn't featured at all in this trailer. Either he isn't as important or he is the most important. What could it be?

The final shot is the most majestic as we see the Night King's horse keep its hoof and it seems Winter has well and truly arrived for Westeros.
