Actor Chiranjeevi, who is awaiting the release of Bhola Shankar in August, took to Twitter to clarify certain statements he made regarding his health at a public event on Saturday.
The actor, who announced his plans to start a cancer centre and highlighted the importance of regular medical checkups. He also went on to cite a personal example of how he himself had undergone a checkup recently, as a result of which he could get non-cancerous polyps removed before they could turn malignant and metastasize into cancer. However, certain media outlets misinterpreted the actor’s statements and carried web articles on how he "survived" cancer. This caused confusion and panic amongst his fans and well-wishers.
To quell such apprehensions and misunderstandings, the actor wrote a statement in Telugu on Twitter saying, “Sometime back, I spoke about the importance of cancer awareness while inaugurating a cancer centre. I was informed that cancer can be prevented ahead of time if you undergo medical tests. Paying heed to that advice, I took a colonoscopy test. The colonoscopy test detected some non-cancerous polyps, which were removed. All I said was that ‘if I had not gotten tested ahead of time, it would have turned cancer, which is why everyone should follow due precautions and undergo regular tests.’ But some media organisations wrote the total opposite of this, stating that I got cancer and I survived cancer due to treatment. This is a clarification for all my well-wishers. I am also appealing to journalists not to write half-baked, sensationalist news. These kinds of articles are hurting and scaring people.”
