Rajinikanth's gesture of touching UP CM Yogi Adityanath's feet stirs arguments among netizens

Following the colossal success of Jailer, actor Rajinikanth has taken the internet by storm once again. The actor, who has been on a pilgrimage to Rishikesh, met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. A video snippet featuring Rajinikanth falling on the feet of the Chief Minister to take his blessings went viral.

The action has stirred conflicts among the netizens. While some lauded the action of Rajini for keeping up his religious etiquette towards a Hindu priest, a large section of social media criticised the actor for bowing to someone not just younger than him but a politician known for his anti-minority stance and policies.

It cooked up quite the storm across social media platforms with voices from all quarters getting louder both in defence and attacking the actor for his act. Ranging from disappointment and outright outrage to elation and unequivocal support, it is not very often that Rajinikanth polarises even his most ardent of fans. In fact, this might be the first such instance after his decision to rescind his political aspirations after proclaiming a potential political entry for years together that has polarised his fans and the Tamil people to this extent. While he hasn't answered about his rationale behind the act, people are expecting answers from the Superstar when he returns to Chennai after his pilgrimage.

Meanwhile, Jailer, written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, has been minting big at the worldwide box office. Besides Rajinikanth, the film features an ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Shivrajkumar,  Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Vinayak, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Sunil, Tamannaah, among others.
