It was earlier speculated that Rashmika Mandanna is part of Chiyaan 61, directed by Pa Ranjith. However, the latest reports suggest that Malavika Mohanan, who was last seen in Maaran, has replaced Rashmika in the upcoming film. Since Rashmika already has a handful of projects in the pipeline and subsequent date clashes, the actor stepped out of Chiyaan 61. Following that, the makers have roped in Malavika, according to the latest buzz. Meanwhile, the team has begun filming in the Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. Before that, a look test was organized in Chennai a few days ago.

Bankrolled by KE Gnanavelraja under the Studio Green banner in association with Neelam Productions, the film will mark the maiden collaboration of the director with the actor. Chiyaan 61 is billed as a period drama set in the 19th century against the backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. The film has music by GV Prakash. According to the reports, the film is said to have a pan-Indian release.
