Actor Simbu has received an honorary doctorate certificate from Vels University. He was honoured for his distinguished excellence in the field of cinema.

The doctorate was conferred on Simbu at the 11th convocation of the University, which was attended by a host of dignitaries including Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur, who witnessed the proceedings online.

VGP Chairman VG Santhosam and sportsperson T Mariyappan were the others upon whom the honour was conferred.

Simbu's parents T Rajendar and Usha Rajendar were present at the honouring ceremony. The actor dedicated the 'huge honour' to his parents, fans and Tamil cinema.

Silambarasan said, "It is an honour to receive an honorary doctorate from such an esteemed institute in India... We understand the world through cinema and I'm grateful to have been part of the film industry that has offered me so much love and support. I thank everyone at VELS for the warm welcome. I felt like I relived my college days. I wish all the students the very best for their future and I'm happy that they are in such great hands."

It must be noted that Simbu is collaborating with Vels International for his next two films. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, directed by Gautham Menon is currently in the final stages of shoot.

After its completion, Simbu will be teaming up with the same production house for a film titled Corona Kumar. Gokul of Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara-fame will be directing the film.

Simbu, who was last seen in Maanaadu, also has Pathu Thala coming up.
