Actor-politician Sarath Kumar took to social media to announce that he has contracted the coronavirus. The 67-year-old actor shared that he was under self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet, he said, "Good evening my near and dear friends, relatives, and my brothers and sisters in the political party. This evening I have tested positive and have self-isolated myself. I humbly request all the dear ones who have been in contact with me for the past week to test yourself immediately."

Fans, friends, and well-wishers have responded to this tweet with 'get-well-soon' messages, and hoped he would get back in action soon considering the State's local body elections were right around the corner, and Sarath Kumar's AISMK is flying solo in the elections.

On the career front, Sarath Kumar is working in Vijay Antony-Vijay Milton's Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan, debutant director Thirumalai Baluchamy's Samaran, and a yet-untitled film co-starring Amitash Pradhan and Kashmira Pardeshi.
