Director Pa Ranjith, who has helmed one of the four stories in the upcoming SonyLIV anthology Victim, met the media on Monday morning. While discussing his upcoming short, titled Dhammam, Ranjith said that the plot was inspired by incidents that happened in his life.

Speaking about his short film, Ranjith said, "When Venkat Prabhu sir called me for this anthology, I was reading The Buddha and His Dhamma (written by Dr BR Ambedkar) and the book made me write a story on Dhammam."

Dhammam revolves around two characters meeting at the midway point of a narrow pathway, and things escalate when neither wants to give way to the other. "It's something that happened to me when I was a child. It didn't lead to a scuffle but I figured out that there are caste politics behind who ends up giving the way and why they do that," said Ranjith. "When I go to my school via that pathway, I always wanted to reach my school without having to get down on the marsh and dirty my slippers. Thinking about it now made me feel like there's a thriller story behind it and that's how Dhammam came into existence," he added.

The other shorts in Victim are directed by Venkat Prabhu, Chimbudevan and Rajesh M. The film is scheduled to stream on SonyLIV from Friday.
