Santhi Soundarajan biopic in the making

A biopic is in the works on Tamil Nadu-born track-and-field athlete Santhi Soundarajan. The film, named after the athlete, will be written and directed by Jayaseelan Dhavaputhalvi and produced by 888 Productions.

Santhi Soundarajan has won 12 international medals for India and around 50 medals for Tamil Nadu. She made headlines when she was stripped of her silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games for failing a sex verification test. The film's first look, which was released today, features a silver medal on it.

A statement from the makers says, "This story is filled with previously unknown incidents and twists from Santhi Soundarajan's life and the whole story will be filmed with her approval. Three persons have been selected to play the role of Santhi Soundarajan. The heroine will be announced on Tamil New Year's day in April. The preliminary shooting will begin in Santhi Soundarajan's village near Pudukkottai. Further shooting is to be held in Punjab, Qatar, and Oman."

The statement goes on to add, "This film focuses on the events that showcase the talent and the strength of women, and will be accepted and appreciated not just by women, but by all."

Ghibran is handling the music for this film that will have sound design by Resul Pookutty. Lyrics will be penned by Yuga Bharathi, while Pon Parthiban provides the dialogues.
