Russian Doll Season 2 ropes in Schitt's Creek actor Annie Murphy

Schitt's Creek actor Annie Murphy has been roped in to star in Russian Doll Season 2 at Netflix.

The news about Murphy’s casting comes just as the series recently began production on its second season. There are no details available about the role that Murphy will play in the series.

Annie Murphy is best known for her role as Alexis Rose in the hit comedy series Schitt’s Creek. The role won her an Emmy Award for best supporting female actor in a comedy in 2020, which was part of the show’s historic sweep of the comedy categories at the Emmys. Murphy was also recently nominated for a Golden Globe for the show’s final season.

The actor is also set to star in the AMC's Kevin Can F**k Himself, in which she plays a sitcom housewife who tries to escape from the confines of her life.

Russian Doll Season 1 premiered in 2019 and was renewed shortly thereafter. It stars Natasha Lyonne as a New York woman who becomes caught in an endless loop of attending her own birthday party only to die and repeat the night over and over again. The first season also starred Greta Lee, Yul Vazquez, Elizabeth Ashley, and Charlie Barnett.

Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco, Brendan Sexton III, Rebecca Henderson, Jeremy Bobb, Ritesh Rajan, and Jocelyn Bioh appeared in guest starring roles.

Notably, the show was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards for its first season, ultimately winning three. Lyonne picked up one of the nominations for best actress in a comedy, while the show itself was nominated for best comedy series.
