Black Widow is undoubtedly one of the much-anticipated Marvel films given that it is the first standalone superheroine movie from the studio. The film, starring Scarlette Johansson as the world's most dangerous assassin Natasha Romanoff, has lived up to the hype, according to the initial response to the film.

Directed by Cate Shortland, the film is being praised for getting the emotional quotient on point. Currently, the film holds an 81 % rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 256 reviews.

The overall consensus, based on the takes of critics and the audience, imply that despite a few shortcomings like the formulaic story and abundant stunt sequences, Black Widow turns out to be an entertaining and rewarding watch.

The story of Black Widow takes place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Natasha goes undercover after going rogue in Civil War and becomes a wanted fugitive. She keeps a lowkey but when a formidable force from her past comes after her, Natasha has to fight her hidden trauma.

It is still unclear when Black Widow will be available for the Indian audience.

Here are some of the initial reactions to the film:
