Black Widow initial reviews: Scarlette Johansson's standalone Marvel film hits the right chord
Black Widow, which has released in many parts of the world, is receiving predominantly positive responses from the critics and audience
Black Widow is undoubtedly one of the much-anticipated Marvel films given that it is the first standalone superheroine movie from the studio. The film, starring Scarlette Johansson as the world's most dangerous assassin Natasha Romanoff, has lived up to the hype, according to the initial response to the film.
Directed by Cate Shortland, the film is being praised for getting the emotional quotient on point. Currently, the film holds an 81 % rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 256 reviews.
The overall consensus, based on the takes of critics and the audience, imply that despite a few shortcomings like the formulaic story and abundant stunt sequences, Black Widow turns out to be an entertaining and rewarding watch.
The story of Black Widow takes place between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Natasha goes undercover after going rogue in Civil War and becomes a wanted fugitive. She keeps a lowkey but when a formidable force from her past comes after her, Natasha has to fight her hidden trauma.
It is still unclear when Black Widow will be available for the Indian audience.
Here are some of the initial reactions to the film:
IT WAS SO NICE BEING IN A THEATER AND HEARING THE MARVEL STUDIOS INTRO AGAIN— Tri, the Doordash Variant (@TriMakesGames) July 9, 2021
also, the movie was much better than I was expecting based off reviews. The whole cast was great, the hand-to-hand sequences were dope, and the humor hits. Wish it came out after CW tho #BlackWidow pic.twitter.com/K4wWIJHC9f
Explosive US start for #BlackWidow with $13.2M THU pre-show #boxoffice. Reviews are good, WOM is very strong & competition is not too much. Disney+ availability starts today & will be a question mark. But fairly good chance this will be first $100M+ opening wknd since 2019!— Gitesh Pandya (@GiteshPandya) July 9, 2021
#BlackWidow offers a better portrait of family than the FAST & FURIOUS does with all its empty platitudes. And Florence Pugh steals the show.— Mike McGranaghan (@AisleSeat) July 9, 2021
