Oscar 2020 nominations: Joker, Once upon a time, The Irishman, Parasite dominate

The full list of the nominations for the Academy Awards 2020 was announced today and as expected the list is dominated by Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, and Todd Philips’s Joker.

Joker leads the list with eleven nominations including nods for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Scorcese’s The Irishman is right behind with ten nominations including one for Best director, making the veteran filmmaker the most nominated director at the Oscars. Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Sam Mendes’ 1917 also bagged 10 nominations each with Parasite behind them with six nods.

Apart from The Irishman, Joker, Parasite, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, James Mangold’s Ford Vs Ferrari, Noah Baumbach’s netflix drama Marriage Story, Sam Mendes’ 1917, Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, and Greta Gedwig’s Little Women walked away with nominations in the Best picture category.

Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Joaquin Phoenix (Joker), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) were tapped for the Best Actor.

On the other hand, Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story), Saorise Ronan (Little Women), Charlize Theron (Bombshell), Renee Zellweger (Judy) bagged places in the race for the Best Actress award.
