Centre accepts CBI probe recommendation in Sushant Singh Rajput case; Ankita Lokhande welcomes decision

The Union of India has accepted the Bihar government’s recommendation for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, say reports. The centre’s submission was made to the Supreme Court by senior counsel and Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta. The apex court was hearing a plea by actor Rhea Chakraborty seeking transfer of the case from Patna to Mumbai. The court has asked the involved parties to file their responses in three days.

Last week, Sushant’s father, KK Singh, had filed an FIR in Patna against Rhea and others, accusing them of money laundering and abetting Sushant’s suicide. A case was registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) based on the FIR.

Meanwhile, Rhea had moved the SC challenging the jurisdiction of the Bihar Police in the probe. On Tuesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had recommended that the CBI take over the case. The Maharashtra Government had opposed the probe claiming it was politically-motivated.

Sushant died by suicide at his Mumbai home on June 14. He was 34. Responding to the acceptance of the CBI probe, Ankita Lokhande, Sushant’s former partner, wrote on social media: “The moment we’ve waited for has finally arrived.”.

Sushant’s sister Shweta Singh Kirti tweeted, “CBI it is! #JusticeForSushant”
