Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films refutes Gnanavel Raja's allegations

Producer Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green Productions alleged yesterday that he helped Kamal Haasan during the latter's financial crisis around the time of release of his 2015 film, Uttama Villain

The producer said that he had given Kamal a sum of Rs 10 crore in order to free him from the financial issue in exchange for the actor working on a film under the Studio Green banner. But the project never materialised. Gnanavel Raja has filed a complaint at the Producers Council regarding this, mentioning that the actor has neither kept his promise nor returned the amount.

Today, NV Narayanan, CEO of Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), released a press statement rubbishing Gnanavel Raja's complaints. The statement read: "Nothing can be farther from the truth and all such allegations are made by people with certain vested interests. It is blatantly false and Mr Gnanavel Raja did not pay any money to Mr Kamal Haasan as being alleged."

Kamal's home banner RKFI co-produced the 2015 Ramesh Aravind-directorial along with director Lingusamy's Tirupathi Brothers Film Media. The statement also stated: "Mr Kamal Hassan had agreed to allot his dates for Tirupathi Brothers and had agreed to make himself available for story discussion in the second week of May 2015. In spite of RKFI's follow up, Tirupathi Brothers did not revert on this matter after that. RKFI had got into an arrangement with Tirupathi Brothers to produce Uttama Villain on a first copy basis. Raaj Kamal completed all its obligations and handed over the first copy to Tirupathi Brothers as agreed. So there is no basis to say that Mr Gnanavel paid Mr Kamal Haasan to get the film released."

The statement added: "The news is instigated now to deliberately tarnish the image of Mr Kamal Haasan. RKFI is evaluating legal options to proceed against those who are deliberately and mischievously planning to defame Mr Kamal Haasan's and RKFI's reputation."
