We had earlier reported that Atharvaa and director Kannan, a former assistant of Mani Ratnam, will be joining hands for a new film. Now, it's known that Anupama Parameshwaran, who debuted in Tamil in Dhanush-starrer, Kodi, will be playing the female lead in the yet-to-be-titled project.

Kannan says that both Atharvaa and Anupama will have solid roles to play, with unique character arcs. "Anupama will be seen as an engineering student, who is also a Bharatanatyam dancer, while Atharvaa will play a Ph.D. scholar. I guess, this project - a family-friendly romantic drama like Alaipayuthey - will be a welcome departure from the present trend of excessive violence and bloodshed," he says.

The director also says that he wanted someone else to pen the dialogues for the film to bring in a fresh perspective. "When I taught about intense romantic lines, the first person who came to my mind was Kabilan Vairamuthu. He gladly agreed to work on the film. Also, after being impressed with the visuals of 96, I signed up the film's cinematographer Shanmuga Sundaram for this project," he adds.

The film, which is expected to go on floors in mid-July, will also feature some well-known character artistes. "We are planning to shoot the entire film overseas, either in the US or Australia. Also, we will be wrapping up the entire shoot in a single schedule," he says.

An official announcement regarding the other cast and crew is expected soon.
