The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) hosted the All India Film Workers Solidarity Day Ceremony on December 2 at Kamala Theatre in Chennai. The ceremony was aimed at distributing Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certificates as well as RPL identity cards to the members.

FEFSI is an Indian organization consisting of technicians from the Tamil film industry. A total of 22 unions belonging to different trades in the film and television industry are affiliated to the FEFSI that has around 25,000 members.

Speaking at the event on RPL, MohitSoni, CEO, Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC) said, “This is the first time film employees are getting central government ID card. The recognition goes a long way in terms of standardisation of the workforce as per the National Skills Qualification Framework in the media and entertainment industry.”

Highlighting the important role RPL certification plays for the industry, RK Selvamani, President, FEFSI thanked MESC and Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) for providing such recognition to the members of FEFSI.

RPL is a platform to provide recognition to people who learn skills through work and not through formal educational methods. It is a process of assessment of an individual's prior learning to give due importance to learning as an outcome rather than learning as a process.
