Sai Dhanshika will be playing an important role in director SP Jananathan’s upcoming film, Laabam, which features Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in the lead. A source close to the film says that Dhanshika will sport a new look for this film.

“Jananathan sir’s films don’t stop with just commercial aspects. They also highlight relevant social issues. Laabam too is one such film which talks about the status and lifestyle of our farmers. It strongly highlights how their labour has been exploited right from the time the British ruled us,” says Dhanshika, whose breakthrough film, Peranmai, was incidentally also directed by Jananathan.

Produced by 7Cs Entertaintment‏, Laabam co-stars Kalaiyarasan and Jagapathi Babu. With music by Imman and cinematography by Ramji, Laabam will mark Shruti Haasan’s return to the silver screen after 2017, which saw the release of three of her films — Singam 3, Katamarayudu, and Behen Hogi Teri

This is Jananathan’s second collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi after the 2015 social drama, Purampokku Engira Podhuvuduamai.
