Rajinikanth appreciated us for coming up with a unique idea: Jayam Ravi on Comali trailer row

We had earlier reported that sections of Rajinikanth fans were angered by the depiction of their matinee idol's political entry in the recently released trailer of Jayam Ravi-starrer Comali. Not just the fans, even actor-politician Kamal Haasan expressed his displeasure over the scene, which shows Jayam Ravi, who plays a coma patient, exclaim that he is still in 1996 on seeing the visual of Rajinikanth announcing his political entry in 2016.

Earlier today, Comali's producer, Ishari K Ganesh, and director, Pradeep Ranganathan, issued an apology regarding the issue and announced the removal of said scene.

Now, Jayam Ravi has come out with a statement clarifying his stance on the issue. He said, "Right from the beginning of my career, I have made a conscious effort to maintain a clean and straight record, thereby not involving myself in controversial issues."

Adding that he was pleased with the positive response to the trailer, Ravi addressed the Rajinikanth controversy. "I would like to make it clear that the element was included in a positive light. Being a hardcore Superstar Rajini sir fan, I have been as eager and anxious as any other to see him embark on his political journey," said Ravi, explaining how he has always been inspired by Rajinikanth, and will never do anything to disrespect him or his fans.

Heaping praise on Rajinikanth's reception to the trailer, Ravi said, "What has made him more lovable than before is that he saw the trailer of Comali and appreciated our team for the creative appeal and congratulated us for coming up with a unique idea."

Ravi clarified that they were deleting the controversial scene from the film because the ideation, without any deliberate intent, has been receiving resentment and negative feedback.

Comali, also starring Kajal Aggarwal, Samyuktha Hegde, Yogi Babu, RJ Anandhi, is set to hit the screens on August 15.
