Rana Daggubati backs Aaspota, to be a web series

Reports about AMR Ramesh working with Rana Daggubati for a project titled Aaspota have been doing the rounds from the time the director met the actor-producer. Rana had even mentioned about this venture in his last interview with CE, when he expressed his wish to work with Ramesh and said that discussions on whether to make it a film or a mini series were on. The latest update is that Aaspota is to be made as a web series meant for a global audience.

Director Ramesh, however, remains tight-lipped about this project. He says, “I will let the production house from Rana’s end make an official announcement and then talk about the project.”

But, according to our source, Rana has already decided to take the project under his wing. He, in association with director AMR Ramesh’s Vijetha Pictures, will be taking Aaspota to the global audience and Vijetha Pictures will be tying up with Netflix to make this a web-series.

The actor and director seem to have also decided to give it a global appeal by not restricting it to one language. Our source says, “Since it is based on real-life incidents, on Rajiv Gandhi's assassination they want to keep it as close as possible to the events. The characters will speak in different languages, depending on where they are located. It will have dialogues in Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and English.”

In fact, the team will not be retaining the title Aaspota and are trying to find a title that will be acceptable to a global audience. Ramesh, who is working on the script along with his assistant, is planning to go on floors with this web-series from February and is casting for it. We hear that, in all likelihood, they will rope in senior Telugu actor Venkatesh to play Karthikeyan’s role, but this is yet to be confirmed. It is also unclear which character Rana himself will play in this series.

Touted to be a big-budget series, this may also have technicians from Hollywood. More will be known once Rana decides on the project and the details are shared from the production end.
