Mammootty's next titled Kannur Squad

Mammootty is currently working on the directorial debut of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj. Produced by the actor's own banner Mammootty Kampany, the film is billed as a thriller. In a recent interview, Mammootty revealed the film's title as Kannur Squad. There are reports about him playing a cop's role in it, but a confirmation is still awaited.

The film has its story by Muhammed Shafi. He has also penned the screenplay along with actor Rony David Raj, who is also director Roby's brother. While Sushin Shyam is composing the film's music, cinematography and edits are handled by Muhammed Rahil and Praveen Prabhakar, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mammootty's latest release Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam has opened to a highly positive response. The film, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, is also getting released in Tamil on Thursday. 

The actor also has B Unnikrishnan's Christopher and the Jeo Baby directorial Kaathal lined up for release.
