Final Cut, remake of One Cut of the Dead pulled from Sundance 

Final Cut, the French remake of the 2017 Japanese film One Cut Of The Dead directed by Shinichiro Uedai will not be a part of Sundance Film Festival. The decision has been made after the event went fully virtual. The French remake is directed by Michel Hazanavicius and was expected to have its premiere at 2022 Sundance Film Festival. 

Due to the rise of Covid cases in the US and across the world, the festival has made this decision. In the press statement, the crew of Final Cut said that they accept the festival organisers’ decision. They said that the “the safety of audiences and filmmakers is of paramount importance.”

Sundance also issued an official statement and said, “We had looked forward to screening Final Cut and due to the shift in our format, they are no longer participating in the Festival. We respect the filmmaker’s wishes to share their work in a different capacity. We remain committed to supporting filmmakers as we navigate the changing landscape to ensure independent artists get the visibility they deserve and while we’re deeply disappointed to not gather as intended, the safety of our entire community must come first.”
