The trailer for Revathy's new directorial, Salaam Venky, is out. Described as a celebration of life, the film stars Kajol as the loving and resolute mother of a terminally-ill boy.

As Venky, played by Mardaani 2's Vishal Jethwa, starts succumbing to his deteriorating health, he makes a dying wish to his mother.

"I have given everything he has ever wanted, " says Sujata (Kajol). "But I cannot grant this." The trailer withholds the exact nature of Venky's wish, though it seems significant enough for doctors, lawyers and journalists to get involved.

In the final shot, a misty-eyed Kajol turns to find Aamir Khan standing and looking on emotionally in a hospital hallway.

Salaam Venky is based on 'a truly incredible story of a mother who fights through every challenge her son's faces and helps him live life to the fullest', read a note from the makers.

Revathy had previously directed the Hindi films Mitr, My Friend (2002), Phir Milenge (2004), and a segment in the anthology Mumbai Cutting (2008).

Talking about her new film, Revathy shared, “Salaam Venky is a project that is extremely close to my heart. I’ve always believed that mothers are real heroes and through Salaam Venky, it’s my absolute pleasure to be able to tell this incredible true story of a similar mother and her unconditional love for her son.“

Kajol said, “I feel, I am very fortunate to play the role of Sujata in Salaam Venky and also being directed by Revathy. Since the day I heard about the idea of the film, it touched my heart too deeply and I knew I definitely wanted to be a part of this wonderful story.”

Apart from Kajol and Vishal Jethwa, the film also stars Rahul Bose, Rajeev Khandelwal, Prakash Raj and Ahana Kumra. It is set to release in theatres on December 9, 2022.
