The trailer of Pankaj Tripathi, Sayani Gupta-starrer Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga dropped on Friday. The film, directed by five-time national award winner Srijit Mukherji, will release on June. 24.

The first glimpse of the film shows Pankaj as Gangaram, a sarpanch vexed with wild animals destroying crops in his village. When authorities don’t provide any help, he decides to get himself killed in a tiger attack as the government provides Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family of the victim. The trailer shows him venturing into the village where he meets a poacher, played by Neeraj Kabi, and together they go on a journey to find the tiger. The video also shows Sayani Gupta as Gangaram’s wife.

According to the makers, the movie will present an “insightful story about the adverse effects of urbanisation, man-animal conflict, and poverty leading to a bizarre practice in a village that resides on the edge of a forest.”

Sherdil is presented by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series Film and Reliance Entertainment. The film is Srijit’s second Hindi directorial after Begum Jaan(2017).
