Naatu Naatu, the foot-tapper from SS Rajamouli’s RRR, after creating waves in the West and bagging many international awards, finally won an Oscar in the Best Original Song category on Monday (India time).

Composed by MM Keeravaani, the song’s Telugu version was sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, while the Hindi version Naacho Naacho was crooned by Vishal Mishra and Rahul.

Talking about the historic win, Vishal said, “I woke up today to this! Seeing a song from our country win is a matter of communal happiness and pride. What I am really ecstatic about is that, not a pop song, a hip-hop song or an EDM song, but a desi number has bagged the Oscars.”

“When I was recording the song, I was dancing. Now the whole world is dancing to Naatu Naatu,” he added.

Apart from Naatu Naatu, Kartiki Gonsalves’s The Elephant Whisperers won the Best Documentary short at the 95th Academy Awards. The film is produced by Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment.
