Shahid Kapoor: I am a fan of what Raj & DK have done
Shahid Kapoor's web series Farzi is slated for a release on February 10 on Prime Video
Shahid Kapoor, who is awaiting the release of his first web series Farzi, has opened up about his experience working with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK in an interview with PTI. He revealed that he chose Farzi because it felt like the next logical step in his career. “I felt this was the natural next step for me. I have been consuming a lot of shows and enjoying them for the last five-six years, so why should I shy away from being a part of it,” the actor said.
Opening up about his character in the series, Shahid shared that Sunny is an ambitious Mumbaikar trying to find a place for himself in a cutthroat world. He also shared that Sunny would be a relatable character from the streets of Mumbai.
According to the actor, Raj and DK had initially approached him for a movie but he surprised them by opting for the Amazon show. “Every platform is as good as its content. If the content is good, the platform will perform and they (Raj and DK) have made really good content in the last three years. That’s the reason we have collaborated. I am a fan of what they had done. They had reached out for a movie, and I was like, (it’s) a great movie, but I want to do a show with you. And DK was like, ‘are you sure you want to do a show?’”
Known for his nuanced performances in films such as Kaminey, Haider, Udta Punjab, Padmavaat, and Jersey among others, Shahid’s desire to discover the streaming platform space stems from his own hunger to attempt something new and difficult.
Farzi is an eight-episode crime thriller with Raj & DK's signature humour, told through the eyes of a clever underdog street artist attempting to bring down a system that favours the elite. The series will premiere on Prime Video, on 10th February in India and more than 240 countries.
Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashi Khanna, Amol Palekar, and Bhuvan Arora round out the cast of Farzi.
