The trailer of Netflix’s upcoming series, starring Abhay Deol and Rajshri Deshpande, Trial By Fire was released Wednesday. The series is based on the book Trial By FireThe Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy written by Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy who lost their children in the 1997 Uphaar cinema fire in Delhi.

The trailer shows Deol as Shekhar and Deshpande in the role of Neelam. It traces their journey to find justice for their kids in the aftermath of the tragedy. There are tense moments in the trailer which show the main leads searching for their children in hospitals after the fire. The two then form an association, with families of other victims, to seek justice and compensation from the Ansals who owned the cinema hall.

The Uphaar cinema fire occurred on June 13, 1997. During the 3 pm screening of the film Border, a fire occurred resulting in 59 people getting stuck inside the hall and dying of asphyxiation. 103 others were injured. The victims and the families of the deceased later formed The Association of Victims of Uphaar Fire Tragedy (AVUT), which filed the landmark civil compensation case. It won Rs 25 crore in compensation for the families of the victims. Sushil and Gopal Ansal, who owned the cinema hall, were sentenced to seven years in jail by the Delhi Court and fined Rs 2.25 crore each for tampering with the evidence.

Directed by Prashant Nair (Umrika, Tryst With Destiny), Trial By Fire also stars Rajesh Tailang, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher, Ratna Pathak, Shilpa Shukla and Shardul Bharadwaj.
