Unemployment is rampant in our country: Swara Bhasker on FIR against Ranveer Singh

Swara Bhasker has reacted strongly to the FIR lodged against Ranveer Singh, over his nude photo shoot for a foreign magazine, on Tuesday. Commenting on the development, Swara said that it was ‘foolishness’ and that ‘unemployment is rampant’ in the country.

Ranveer was booked today after a complaint was filed against him by an NGO in Mumbai’s Chembur area which claimed that the pictures ‘outraged the modesty of women’.

A case was filed against Ranveer under sections 292 (dealing with obscene materials falls within this exception thereby addressing the issue of public decency and morality), 293 (obscene objects to young person) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) including 67 (A) of the Information Technology Act.

An office-bearer of the NGO had alleged that the actor hurt the sentiments of women in general and insulted their modesty through his photographs, police had earlier said.

Ranveer had appeared nude on the cover of Paper magazine earlier this month. The pictures received both praise and were also subject to memes on social media. A few days ago, Swara had reacted to the controversy around the pictures, taking on those criticising the actor. “Daily cases of injustice & oppression in India, but sure.. our outrage is reserved for @RanveerOfficial ’s photos! I mean, seriously.. don’t like it, don’t look at it! Not your cup of tea, don’t drink it! But don’t ‘thopo (impose)’ your preferences on us! And no, this isn’t a moral issue!” Swara had tweeted.

Ranveer was recently seen in Netflix's interactive special Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls. He will next be seen in Rohit Shetty's directorial Cirkus with Jacqueline Fernandes and Pooja Hegde. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani with Alia Bhatt is also on the cards for the actor.
