Koffee with Karan 7: I was unceremoniously dropped, says Ranveer Singh on not bagging Bombay Velvet

The first episode of Koffee with Karan season 7 premiered today. For the maiden episode, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt took to the coveted couch to sip some coffee and spill some beans. After Gully Boy, the actors will be sharing the screen in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which marks the return of Karan Johar in the director’s chair.

During a game of ‘Koffee Bingo’ which had points like ‘Hated a gift given by bae’, ‘Didn’t speak to my partner for over a week’, ‘Quickie in the vanity van’ and ‘Got rejected for a role’, among others, Ranveer circled all of them. What piqued Karan’s interest was ‘rejected for a role’. “Bombay Velvet?” he asked Ranveer, to which he jokingly replied, “I was not rejected, K. I was unceremoniously dropped because at the time I couldn’t justify the budget. My star value wasn’t high. But things have changed.” To which Karan sheepishly laughed and said, “Well done.”

The lead role of Bombay Velvet ultimately went to Ranbir Kapoor. The film also starred Karan Johar in an antagonist role. It was a dud at the box office and made just one-third of its budget of Rs 120 crore.

During the Bingo, Ranveer also talked about his ‘sex playlists’. “I have different sex playlists. For sensuous, passionate, loving sex. Then for raunchy, randy, dirty sex. Different sex playlists,” he said. He also talked about having 'quickies' in the vanity van. "There's a risk element involved, making it more exciting."

Ranveer’s latest release was Jayeshbhai Jordaar which received mixed reviews. He will next be seen with Alia Bhatt in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Alia who got applauded for her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi, has Brahamastra Part One: Shiva with Ranveer Singh in the pipeline. She will also be sharing screen with Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif in Farhan Akhtar’s Jee le Zaraa.
