Varun Grover starts filming directorial debut All India Rank

Varun Grover has started filming his directorial debut, All India Rank. The film is written by Varun and produced by Sanjay Routray and Sarita Patil under their banner Matchbox Shots.

“Stolen moments of friendships in a world of competition,” Varun wrote on Instagram, sharing the film’s poster. It depicts a group of friends chatting around a cycle. Force arrows—commonly used in physics diagrams—mark the illustrated poster.

The cast of All India Rank is yet to be announced. Archana Ghangrekar is the cinematographer with Sanyukta Kaza handing the edit.

Varun is a noted lyricist, screenwriter and standup comedian. A civil engineering graduate from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, he moved to Mumbai in 2004 seeking work in the Hindi film industry. He is best known for writing the lyrics for Gangs of Wasseypur — 1 & 2, Masaan (also screenwriter), Udta Punjab and Newton. He co-wrote the Dibakar Banerjee film, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, and was lead writer on Sacred Games. He performs in the satire collective Aisi Taisi Democracy and has also authored books.
