Jacqueline Fernandez has penned a note addressing the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, her home country.

The island nation is facing a shortage in foreign currency due to international debts. This has affected their ability to import food and fuel and led to extended power cuts. The country has also seen widespread protests in response to the crisis.

In her note, posted on Instagram, Jacqueline said that now is not the time to pass quick judgements and blame a particular group. She said that her home country needs 'empathy and support' from the world over.

"As a Srilankan, it is heartbreaking to see what my country and countrymen are going through, " Jacqueline wrote, posting a picture of the Sri Lankan flag.

I have been flooded with a lot of opinions since this began from around the world. I would say, do not be too quick to pass a judgement and vilify any group based on what is shown. The world and my people do not need another judgement, they need empathy and support. 2-minutes of silent prayer for their strength and well-being will bring you much closer to them than a comment based on a loose grasp of the situation."

"To my country and countrymen, I am hoping this situation comes to an end soon and through means which are peaceful and for the benefit of the people. Praying for immense strength to those dealing with this. Peace to all," she added.

Jacqueline was crowned Miss Universe Sri Lanka in 2006 and represented the country at the Miss Universe world pageant. She made her Bollywood debut in the 2009 film, Aladin.
