Trailer of Sr. documentary offers glimpse into the life of maverick filmmaker Robert Downey Sr

The trailer of Sr., the upcoming documentary on filmmaker Robert Downey Sr, was released recently by Netflix. 

Directed by Chris Smith, the five-time Emmy nominee, the documentary will premiere on Netflix on December 2. Earlier, it was screened at the Telluride Film Festival and The New York Film Festival. The trailer shows that this documentary will present a portrait of the life and career of maverick filmmaker Robert Downey Sr. that explores the meditation on art, mortality, and healing generational dysfunction. Besides, Robert Downey Jr. also pays tribute to his late father in this documentary chronicling his life and pioneering career. Downey Sr passed away on July 7, 2021.

The documentary is produced by Team Downey’s Susan Downey, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Barclay Ford; Kevin Ford. Team Downey and Netflix previously collaborated on the fantasy series Sweet Tooth, which is heading into its second season. Earlier, in a statement, Chris Smith mentioned that it was such a pleasure and life-affirming experience to capture some glimpses of the highs, lows, and everything in-between of the veteran filmmaker.”
