Sydney Sweeny, known for her roles in Euphoria and Immaculate, is all said to essay the role of Christy Martin in the legendary boxer's biopic. David Michôd of Animal Kingdom and The King is directing the film.

This yet-to-be-titled film will be about the true story of Martin’s rise to become America’s one of the most well-known female boxers in the 1990s. Unlike Sweeny's recent romantic comedy Anyone But You, the actor is set to lead an action-heavy film. The actor says she is “itching to get back into the ring.”

“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I've been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn't a light one, it's physically and emotionally demanding, and there's a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself,” Sweeney told Deadline in a recent interview. She continued “Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, but she also overcame gender stereotypes and fought through emotional, physical, and financial abuse,” and therefore “I feel compelled to tell a story about a woman who faced so much adversity and didn't allow it to defeat her.”

The story follows Christy Martin's struggle with her identity in a conservative environment, using boxing as an outlet for her emotions, and her risky decision to marry a dangerous man. Mirrah Foulkes and Michôd are writing the screenplay, with a team of producers including Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Justin Lothrop, Brent Stiefel, Sweeney, and Teddy Schwarzman. Schwarzman will be reteaming with Sweeny after Immaculate.
