Paul Thomas Anderson to begin shooting his next film in July 2023

Paul Thomas Anderson is reportedly all set to begin shooting for his next film in the summer of next year. According to reports, the filmmaker will begin filming in June 2023 in Los Angeles. The information was revealed through a casting call for his film that asked for a 15-16-year-old female of mixed ethnicity who is “physically athletic and excels at Martial Arts.”

Although details regarding the plot of the film are being kept under tight wraps, it has been revealed that the director is making a film that captures the Jazz scene in 1940s LA, specifically centered around the Little Harlem part of the city.

Reports further suggest that veteran actor Denzel Washington might be a part of Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film. Talking about his idea for the next film to IndieWire, the director said, “You know how they got Harlem Nights? I was like, ‘What if we did South Central Nights, like what South Central used to be? How LA was this place where you could come and be free, but it was still very segregated, and how that work in the relationships, the interracial relationships and all that dynamic?”

Paul Thomas Anderson is best known for critically acclaimed films like Boogie Nights, Punch Drunk Love, There Will be Blood, Inherent Vice, and The Master. The filmmaker’s recent release Licorice Pizza, which was released in 2021, received three Academy Awards Nominations including for Best Picture and Best Director.
