Claire Danes on board limited series Fleishman is in Trouble

Fleishman is in Trouble, a limited series adaptation of Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s bestselling debut novel of the same name has been in the making for some time now with Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Eisenberg attached to star. Now, the upcoming series has added actor Claire Danes to its cast.

The series follows the story of Toby Fleishman, a recently separated man who dives into the world of dating apps with the kind of success he had never had in dating in his youth before he got married. But just at the start of his first summer of sexual freedom, his ex-wife Rachel disappears, leaving him with the kids and no hint of where she is or whether she plans to return. The newly eligible bachelor must juggle being a full-time parent, reconnecting with old friends, transitioning into a long-awaited promotion at the hospital he works at as a hepatologist, and the world of single women in New York City.

While Eisenberg is set to portray the titular character, Caplan will reportedly play the narrator of the series named Libby. Danes will play Rachel, a very successful and ambitious talent agent with a put-together exterior that conceals past trauma. Though she initially embraces the freedom she gets after leaving Toby, she ultimately struggles with her new identity.

Brodesser-Akner will write the nine-episode series and executive produce it along with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Susannah Grant. Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will direct multiple episodes of the show.

Danes' broke out after her performance in My So-Called Life, which garnered her a Golden Globe. She starred as Carrie Mathison for eight seasons in Homeland. The actor also won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for the HBO film Temple Grandin. She will be seen next in the Apple TV limited series The Essex Serpent.
