Renfield starring Nicolas Cage, Nicholas Hoult wraps up shoot

Dracula movie Renfield, headlined by Nicolas Cage, Awkwafina, and Nicholas Hoult, has wrapped filming. The film's producers Universal Pictures announced the news on Twitter.

Renfield is a character that debuted in Bram Stoker's original Dracula novel. In that story, Renfield was an inmate at an asylum who was thought to be suffering from delusions that compelled him to eat live creatures in the hopes of obtaining immortality, but in fact, was a servant of the popular vampire.

Written by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty), based on an original story written by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Renfield will centre around the titular character who will be portrayed by Hoult. Known for being Dracula’s (Cage) sidekick, Renfield steps out from behind Drac’s shadow and makes his own mark. He meets a traffic cop named Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina) whose comical hatred toward the world makes him fall for her.

The film is directed by Chris McKay, who is well-known for directing The Tomorrow War and The Lego Batman Movie. The filmmaker is also producing the film.

The cast of the film also includes Ben Schwartz, James Moses, Shohreh Agdashloo, and Bess Rouss.

The film will be produced by Skybound Entertainment’s film team, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. McKay’s producing partner Samantha Nisenboim will serve as an executive producer. Universal Pictures has announced that the film will release in April next year.
