Oscar-winner Emma Stone and writer-husband Dave McCary are developing a series adaptation of the upcoming novel A Flicker in the Dark via their banner Fruit Tree along with A24. The series will be streaming at HBO Max.

A Flicker in the Dark, which is Stacy Willingham's debut novel, follows Chloe Davis, who was shocked to discover at age 12 that her father confessed to the murder of six teenage girls in their small Louisiana town. Twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist in Baton Rouge whose life begins to unravel when local teens start to go missing.

The novel will hit the stores in the US in January. Morgan Gould will adapt the book for the screen. This is the latest TV project Fruit Tree has set up with A24 since signing their first-look deal in 2020.

Meanwhile, Stone will next star in and executive produce the Showtime series The Curse and Poor Things, a feature film that reunites her with The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos.

Stone's last appearance was Disney's 2021 live-action Cruella.
