Amazon Prime Video cancels young adult drama series Panic after first season

Amazon Prime Video has cancelled the young adult drama series Panic after its first season.

Starring Camron Jones, Ray Nicholson and Olivia Welch, the series is written and created by Lauren Oliver based on her best-selling novel.

Panic centred on a small town in America where the graduating seniors engage in a competition every year, which they believe is their one chance to escape. This year, however, the rules have changed — and they must decide how much they are willing to risk in order to get out.

The first season of Panic premiered on May 28, alongside a three-part novella on Audible, that featured the voice of Jones, Nicholson and Welch.

Deadline quoted a source stating that Panic did not connect with the audiences and yet it told a complete story of the game of Panic in its first season, thus providing a satisfying conclusion. This seemed to have led to the steamer's decision to cancel the series.

Oliver executive produced Panic with Joe Roth & Jeff Kirschenbaum of Roth Kirschenbaum Films and Adam Schroeder. Alyssa Altman served as co-executive producer along with Lynley Bird of Glasstown Entertainment.
