'I want to follow in the footsteps of Karan Johar'

Producer Madhura Sreedhar Reddy’s latest film American Born Confused Desi (ABCD) has drawn mixed responses from audiences and critics, but he is unperturbed. “I have been producing concept-based films and this time, I wanted to make a film integrating the influence of social media, politics and chose to remake ABCD. We have tweaked it to our sensibilities and increased the entertainment quotient. Despite mixed reviews, the film has reached its target audience and is performing well at the box office. I'm glad that the film has passed the Monday test with flying colours," says Sreedhar.

He asserts that it is challenging to produce a remake and choosing a light-hearted story just adds the pressure. “I have produced a remake for the first time and it is really difficult for a film with a light-hearted story to do well at the box-office. However, the concept of two spendthrift NRIs, who are tricked into going to India is somewhat new to our audience,” he adds.

Sreedhar, when asked if he will ever direct a film again, says, "I was shattered by the response to my last directorial Backbench Student (2011) and had taken a shift from direction to production for some time now. Also, I haven't come across a script that gets me that excited to direct a film. I'm working on a script and will soon don the director's hat again."

Calling Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar his inspiration, Sreedhar shares, "I always look up to Karan Johar. I admire his work. He directs a film of his choice once in a while and produces interesting films. I want to follow in his footsteps and enjoy my work as a filmmaker.”

He is excited to introduce Anand Sai Deverakonda and Shivatmika Rajasekhar with his next film Dorasani. “The first look will be out later this week. The post-production is in the last leg and we are planning to release Dorasani on July 5,” concludes Sreedhar.
